01.07.16 - Life on the World Tour goes a little like this – We travel to 10 events, in several different countries, surfing and competing at the worlds best waves (unsuccessfully conquering jet lag at each stop). This year is my 6th year on the World Tour and I can easily say that besides the wave riding, my favourite part of the job is the places we visit. Our ‘Lay days’ are our off days at each event, a perfect time to run around and explore whereever we are in the world. I’ve been lucky enough to collaborate with some very talented photographers and creatives. With my online journal I’ll be documenting all of our adventures right here….
Welcome to the West – My first installation of ‘Lay Day’ - Shot somewhere in the South West Australian Coastline at the second stop of the WSL World Tour – The Margaret River Pro.
This place blows me away more and more every time I visit. It’s such an untouched part of Australia with raw coastline, empty beaches, fun waves, big waves (scary waves), and of course – winery’s. I finished 5th in the event and left WA very happy and full of grapes!
Destination – Smiths Beach about 25 minutes north of Margaret River, Western Australia.
Coffee spot – Margaret River Bakery (best pies on earth too)
Food (and wine) – Arvinina Estate Winery
Photographer – Willie Kessel
